What Working in Another Country can do for Your Personal & Professional

There are so many wonderful benefits to working and studying abroad. Not only will you have the time of your life, you will also boost your personal and professional development in ways you never imagined. Maybe you’re thinking of taking up a job in a new country, or want to try out a role by undertaking some work experience abroad, here are 5 reasons you should consider living abroad and why…

1Make friends around the World!

While abroad, you will meet both natives to the culture in which you are working, but also other international students who are also studying or working abroad. It is great for you to broaden your horizons, emerge yourself in other cultures, and learn so much about other cultures. It’s also fab to keep in touch with all the people you meet – you never know when you might be able to visit them in later life and travel some more!

2Learn Languages

Working abroad is the absolute best way to learn a language. You can read as many books and attend as many language lessons as you like, but when it comes down to it, there is no better and more effective way to learn a language than to be immersed in the country that speaks the language you are learning. You would be surrounded by the language on a day-to-day basis – hearing it in the proper cultural context. Learning a language happens most speedily under these circumstances.

3You can Travel!

When you’re not working, so for example at the weekends, you will be able to venture out and explore your surroundings! Working close to home doesn’t allow you to discover totally new and cool places on a daily basis. Since studying abroad can put you on a completely different continent, you are much closer to places you might otherwise not have had the chance to visit.

4Move up the career ladder

Working abroad can really enhance your employment opportunities. As the world continues to become more globalized, companies from countries around the world continue to invest in the international market. Through an employer’s eyes, someone who has worked abroad will be self-motivated, independent, willing to embrace challenges!  Any experience you gain living and working in a foreign country, whether it be discovering another or gaining another language, will all set you apart.

5Develop your worldview

Us westerners can often lead somewhat sheltered lives, not really considering the world beyond our nation’s boundaries. People who work abroad often return home with an informed and less prejudiced outlook towards different cultures and people.

All of this, combined with the fact that working abroad is really fun and exciting should be enough to make anyone want to venture outwards and go on an adventure!
