Are groceries actually cheaper at Walmart in Canada or does it just feel that way

I keep switching between Walmart, Superstore and Costco trying to save money. Sometimes Walmart seems cheaper, but then produce is not always great and I end up making extra trips. What are people doing now for groceries?

AI Summary

Replies say Walmart can be cheaper for pantry items, but many still split shopping between stores for produce, bulk items and sales.

Maybe it\'s just me, but I swear Walmart raises prices every week or two now. I\'ll buy something regularly for months, then suddenly it\'s 50 cents more, then a dollar more a few weeks later. It doesn\'t sound like much until you look at the total bill and realize you\'re spending way more than you were a year ago for the exact same cart.

What annoys me is that Walmart built its reputation on being the cheaper option. Now I find myself standing in the aisle checking prices against other stores because the difference isn\'t always what it used to be. Some items are still good deals, but others have crept up so much that I honestly don\'t know if I\'m saving anything anymore.

The worst part is that grocery prices rarely seem to go back down. Every increase is explained by inflation, supply chains, transportation costs, or whatever the reason is that month. Then those issues improve and somehow the higher prices stay. Feels like consumers are expected to just accept it and move on.

These days I don\'t think loyalty to any grocery store makes sense. I buy whatever is on sale because none of them seem particularly interested in helping customers save money anymore.

Flyer apps help but honestly it is exhausting. Grocery shopping feels like a part time job now.

I started using pickup orders because walking inside makes me buy random things. Even if prices are similar, avoiding impulse buys saves more than switching stores sometimes.

Costco for meat and household stuff, Walmart for pantry, local store for quick produce. It is not convenient but it saves us money over a month.

Walmart is usually cheaper for basics like cereal, pasta, canned stuff and snacks. For produce I still prefer other stores when I can. The annoying answer is that no single store wins anymore, you kind of have to split it up.
