As a parent, long movies are harder. I need to know if I can finish something after the kids sleep. That is why TV sometimes wins. A three-hour movie can be great, but it feels like scheduling an appointment.
Are modern movies too long, or do people just have shorter attention spans now?
It feels like every big movie is close to three hours. Sometimes that’s great, but sometimes I miss tight 90-minute films. What do you think?
People debate whether modern movies are too long or whether audiences have less patience for slow pacing.
Answers & Discussion
Length is not the problem; pacing is. The Godfather is long and I never feel bored. Some shorter movies feel endless because nothing matters. If the scenes build character and tension, I do not care about runtime.
I miss 90-minute movies. Not every story needs an epic runtime. Some comedies and thrillers work better when they are tight. A long movie is fine when it earns the length, but a lot of blockbusters feel like they kept every subplot.
