Smoothies are fine, but I do not use them as my only breakfast unless they are filling. Drinking calories can go down fast. If I am hungry an hour later, the smoothie was not balanced enough.
Are smoothies actually healthy or just sugar in a cup?
I make fruit smoothies and feel healthy, but someone told me they can be too much sugar. What makes a smoothie balanced?
People discuss how to make smoothies more balanced with protein, fiber, healthy fats and vegetables.
Answers & Discussion
The problem is fruit juice as the base. It makes the smoothie taste great but adds a lot of sugar without much fullness. Whole fruit is better, and berries are easier on sugar than giant tropical fruit blends.
A smoothie is better when it has protein, fiber and fat, not just fruit juice and bananas. I use Greek yogurt or protein powder, berries, spinach, chia seeds and water or milk. It keeps me full longer.
