French press might be the answer. I was trying to avoid effort but honestly dealing with bad plastic taste is more annoying.
Best coffee maker under $100 that doesn’t taste like plastic
I just want basic good coffee at home without spending espresso machine money. I bought a cheap coffee maker before and the first few weeks everything tasted like plastic even after rinsing it a bunch. Anyone have a simple one under 100 that actually lasts and doesnt make coffee taste weird?
Replies recommend simple drip machines, French presses, or pour-over setups, with several users warning that very cheap plastic machines can affect taste at first.

I got a used basic Cuisinart from Marketplace for like 25 bucks and it has been better than the brand new cheap one I had before. People upgrade coffee makers all the time, so used might be worth checking.
If you want automatic drip, look for something simple with a glass carafe and fewer plastic parts near the hot water path. The fancy cheap ones with lots of buttons are usually not better. Also run vinegar water through it a few times before judging the taste.
Honestly for under 100 I would consider a French press or pour-over instead of another cheap drip machine. Less plastic, easier to clean, and the coffee tastes better once you get used to it. It is a tiny bit more work but not much.
