Another option is staying closer to Dartmouth if you are not flying out again the next morning. You might get more food options nearby and sometimes a better rate. But if you arrive late or have an early start, I would not make the trip longer just to save maybe 30 dollars. Travel days are already exhausting enough.
Cheap hotel near Halifax airport with a pool… does that even exist anymore?
Flying into Halifax with my two kids this summer and we only need somewhere for one night before driving out the next morning. They are already asking for a hotel with a pool, of course lol. I keep finding places that are either close to the airport but expensive, or cheaper but a decent drive away. Is it worth staying by the airport or would you just book somewhere else and deal with the drive?
The discussion leans toward paying a little more for an airport-area hotel when travelling with kids or an early flight, while checking whether the pool and shuttle are actually available before booking.

I would look at the airport hotels first, but dont assume the shuttle makes everything easy. Some only run at set times and if your flight is late you can end up waiting with tired kids and bags. If the pool is the big thing for them, call the hotel before paying and ask if it is open that day. sounds overkill but children will remember the closed pool more than the room lol
With kids and only one night, I would stay close to the airport even if it costs a bit more. A cheaper room stops feeling cheap pretty fast if you have to get everyone back in the car after a flight, find food, then wake up early and drive again. Also double check the pool hours before booking because some hotel pools look great in photos but are closed for maintenance or only open during awkward hours.
