I pay for it and hope I never use it. Same as most insurance honestly.
Do renters actually need tenant insurance in Halifax
My landlord mentioned tenant insurance and I always thought it was one of those optional things people skip. But now I am wondering if it matters more than I think, especially with apartment fires, water damage, break ins and all that. Is it really worth paying every month if you dont own expensive furniture or electronics?
Most replies say tenant insurance is worth it because liability and temporary living costs can matter more than replacing furniture.

Also check if your landlord requires proof. Some leases say it clearly and some landlords ask later. Even if they dont require it, I would still have it. Apartment buildings are shared risk. Your neighbor's mistake can become your problem really fast.
If you truly own almost nothing, it still might be worth it for peace of mind. Get quotes and see. Sometimes it is like the cost of one takeout meal a month. Obviously read what is actually covered because not every policy is the same.
I used to skip it until a pipe burst in a building I lived in. My unit was not even the source of the problem but I still had to leave for a few days while repairs happened. The people with insurance had hotels covered way faster. I learned my lesson from watching that mess.
Yes, and not just because of your stuff. People think tenant insurance is only about replacing a couch or laptop, but the liability part is huge. If something in your unit causes damage to another unit, you do not want to be figuring that out after the fact. Mine is not expensive compared with the risk.
