Everything feels optimized instead of genuine now
Does social media feel weirdly less social now
Feels like feeds became mostly ads, influencers and random videos instead of actual friends posting stuff
Replies say algorithms and short videos changed social media from social interaction into entertainment feeds.

I barely know what my actual friends are doing anymore
I think it absolutely feels less social, and the strange part is that we\'re technically more connected than ever. Years ago, social media felt like a place where you could actually see what your friends were doing, share random thoughts, and have conversations that felt spontaneous. Now it often feels like everyone is performing for an audience instead of interacting with each other.
A lot of platforms seem to prioritize content from influencers, brands, and algorithms over actual friends and family. I can open an app and scroll for several minutes before seeing a post from someone I actually know. Instead, I\'m shown videos, recommended content, advertisements, and people trying to build personal brands. Some of that content is entertaining, but it doesn\'t necessarily feel social.
I\'ve also noticed that people seem more cautious about what they post. Years ago someone might share a random photo from their day or a funny thought that crossed their mind. Today it feels like many people are worried about how everything will be judged, so they either post highly polished content or stop posting altogether. The result is that platforms have become more crowded while somehow feeling less personal.
What I miss most is the sense of community that existed on older forums, message boards, and even early social media sites. People would have long conversations, get to know each other over time, and discuss topics in depth. Now everything feels faster, shorter, and more focused on engagement metrics. Maybe that\'s just nostalgia talking, but social media often feels more like entertainment consumption than actual social interaction these days.
