I worked in a small accounting firm for several years and learned more in those first two years than I expected. The workload could be intense but the experience was valuable.
I had a similar experience. The hours were challenging, but the practical knowledge I gained helped me later when I moved into an industry role.
My experience has been very different from what I expected in school. Technical skills matter, but communication skills ended up being just as important in my career.
I started in accounting almost ten years ago and my opinion has changed over time. Early on I questioned whether I had picked the right field because the learning curve was steep. Looking back, the stability and opportunities have been worth it.
