I put lip liner underneath and keep the gloss only in the middle, not all the way to the edges. That keeps it from sliding around and feeling messy. Clear gloss over the whole lip always feels sticky to me, but a little shine in the centre gives the same effect in photos and feels much more wearable.

I only wear gloss when my hair is tied back, honestly. But formula matters too. Some newer oil-gloss hybrids feel more like lip oil and less like glue. They do not last as long as traditional gloss, but I would rather reapply than spend the day peeling hair off my mouth.

The amount you apply matters a lot. I used to swipe gloss across my lips like lipstick, and it always felt thick. Now I put a small dot in the centre of my bottom lip and press my lips together. It gives shine without that heavy sticky layer. I also avoid super-plumping glosses because those feel tackier on me.
