Is a hybrid car still a good choice if you drive in Canadian winters?

I need to replace my car sometime this year and I keep looking at hybrids because I do a mix of city driving and highway. But I also live where winters are cold and snowy and I keep hearing fuel savings drop a lot in cold weather. I am not looking for anything fancy, just something reliable that wont make winter driving stressful.
