For business, Instagram is still very important. For personal life, I agree it feels performative. I run a small shop and customers expect us to be there, but on my personal account I only post once in a while. The app changed from a photo album into a marketing platform.
Is Instagram still the best app for sharing life updates, or has it become too polished?
I used to post normal photos on Instagram, but now it feels like everything has to be edited, aesthetic, or a reel. Do people still use it casually?
People compare Instagram's older casual photo-sharing feel with today's reels, stories and polished posting culture.
Answers & Discussion
Instagram became more useful for following restaurants, events, and creators than actual friends. I still like it, but it does not feel personal like it did years ago. When someone posts a normal messy photo dump, I honestly enjoy that more than another polished travel reel.
I barely post to the grid anymore. Stories feel more natural because they disappear and do not need to be perfect. Instagram is still where my friends are, but the main feed feels like brands, influencers, and people trying to look professional. For real life updates, stories and close friends work better.
