The mistake is chasing one exact phrase. Search engines understand topics better now, and AI answers synthesize across pages. I still check volume and difficulty, but I care more about whether the page solves a real problem better than what is already ranking.
Is keyword research still useful, or should we only write for search intent now?
Old SEO advice was all about keyword volume. Now people say intent matters more. How do you choose topics in 2026?
People compare traditional keyword research with intent-based topic planning in modern SEO.
Answers & Discussion
I plan content around clusters now. One pillar page, supporting questions, comparisons, reviews, and examples. Keyword tools help, but real customer questions are just as important. If sales calls, support tickets, and Reddit threads all show the same pain point, that is a topic worth covering even if the keyword tool looks small.
Keyword research is still useful, but it is not the strategy by itself. I use keywords to understand language people use, then group them by intent. Someone asking 'best CRM for small business' needs a different page than someone asking 'what is a CRM'. Volume without intent leads to traffic that does not convert.
