Some stains are just too drying, and no trick fixes them. I tried to force myself to like one because everyone online loved it, but my lips peeled every time. I switched to tinted balm for weekdays and save stain for days when I need colour to last through meals or events.

I use lip stain more like a base than a full lip product. It gives colour, then I put balm on top throughout the day. That way my lips look alive even after the balm wears off. If your lips are already dry, though, stain will exaggerate it, so night-time lip care matters.

Lip stain can work daily, but I avoid the very matte liquid stains. The watery tints are more comfortable for me. I apply a thin layer, let it dry completely, then use a light balm over it. If I keep adding stain all day, my lips get dry. One morning layer is enough.
