I would not quit SEO, but I would stop measuring success only by pageviews. Some searches may bring fewer clicks, but the clicks that remain can be more intentional. Build email capture, comparison pages, tools, reviews, and communities. Google traffic alone is too risky now.
Is SEO still worth doing now that Google AI Overviews answer so many searches?
My blog traffic is down and I keep seeing AI answers at the top of Google. I’m wondering if traditional SEO is still worth the work or if clicks are disappearing for good.
People debate whether SEO is still worth doing as Google AI Overviews and zero-click search reduce traditional organic clicks.
Answers & Discussion
If your site depended on simple question-answer articles, AI Overviews can hurt badly. I saw the same thing with basic definition posts. The pages that still bring value are the ones with original examples, real testing, screenshots, opinions, or community discussion. AI can summarize generic content, but it cannot replace lived experience as easily.
SEO is still worth doing, but the goal is changing. I no longer think of SEO as only ranking blue links. You need content that can rank, get cited, build trust, and support your brand when someone compares options. Informational traffic may be harder, but commercial, local, and experience-based content can still work.
