Even when it does not save much, some people like the convenience. But I would still price the actual route. Japan travel is expensive enough without buying a pass that does not match your itinerary.
Is the Japan Rail Pass still worth it, or should people just buy individual train tickets?
I keep seeing mixed advice about the JR Pass. If someone is doing Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and maybe one day trip, does it still save money?
Travelers discuss whether the Japan Rail Pass is worth it depending on route, number of long-distance train trips and itinerary style.
Answers & Discussion
The pass makes more sense if you are moving a lot: Tokyo to Kyoto to Hiroshima to Osaka and back, for example. But if your trip is slower, it may not pay off. Do not buy it because old travel blogs said it was essential.
You have to calculate it now. The JR Pass is not automatically worth it for the basic Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka route. If you are only doing one round trip or a simple one-way route, individual tickets may be cheaper.
