Start with Google Docs for proposals and service descriptions. You can create templates for client proposals, contracts, onboarding notes, and project summaries. It is simple, free, and clients usually have no problem opening a Google Doc or PDF export.

For freelancers, invoicing matters more than people think. I used Wave when I started because I needed something that looked professional without a monthly fee. It helped me track invoices and payments instead of using random documents and emails.

Canva is very useful if you cannot hire a designer yet. It is good for service menus, social posts, simple logos, presentations, and client-facing PDFs. The free version has limits, but for starting out it is much better than trying to design everything from scratch.

I would use Google Sheets to track leads and clients before using a complicated CRM. Keep columns for name, email, service needed, last contact date, next follow-up, quote amount, and status. It is basic, but it teaches you the habit of following up.

Trello is still one of the easiest free tools for freelancers. I used boards for leads, active projects, revisions, invoices, and completed work. It gave me a visual picture of what was happening without feeling like corporate project management software.
