The hair growth was what finally pushed me to ask. I felt embarrassed, but the doctor was not shocked at all. PCOS can affect more than appearance, including periods, fertility and insulin resistance. I wish I had brought it up sooner instead of treating it like a personal failure.
For me it was going months without a period and then having very heavy bleeding when it came. I also had acne that did not respond to normal skincare. My doctor checked hormones, symptoms and an ultrasound. It helped to say clearly that I wanted to understand why my cycles were irregular.
