If someone confesses quickly and takes responsibility, I think there is at least a different starting point. If they deny, hide, delete, blame, and only admit what you can prove, that is much harder to come back from.
What would hurt more: the cheating or the lying afterward?
Some people say the betrayal itself is devastating, while others say the cover-up and denial are what destroy the relationship. Which part would hurt more to you?
Replies say the lying often deepens the wound because it makes the betrayed partner question reality and past memories.

The cheating hurts, but the lying damages your sense of reality. It is one thing to be betrayed. It is another thing to realize someone watched you trust them every day while they knew the truth.
For me it would be the lying afterward. Cheating is already painful, but lying makes you question your own judgment. You start replaying conversations, remembering moments when you felt something was off, and wondering how many times you were made to feel unreasonable for noticing.
