Best Things To Do in Philadelphia

Like most major cities, Philadelphia is always bustling with different events and activities. The great thing about Philadelphia is that there are activities and events for everyone, regardless of where your interests lie. Like music? You can always catch a concert or performance. Like art? There are plenty of venues with artistic events. Into movies? The Academy of Natural Sciences has Mega Bad Movie Night and throughout the summer there are other movie festivals around the city. Whatever you’re into, Philadelphia is bound to have an activity related to any interest. Although there is a lot to do in Philadelphia, I’ve narrowed the list to activities that I’ve found to be really fun over the years.

Art After 5

Every Friday the Philadelphia Museum of Art holds Art After 5. Free with admission, visitors can see performances from 5:45 PM until 8:45 PM with a light snack and drinks. One can also tour the museum and get a more intimate look at the collections without the crowds of normal hours.

I went to my first Art After 5 performance on February 19, 2016. I saw Arooj Aftab, a neo-Sufi singer from Pakistan. I was amazed with her performance and I was also amazed with the acoustics the Art Museum had. I felt like I was watching Arooj Aftab at a concert venue instead of below the main stairway. Where performances are held, it’s the perfect location. Alexander Calder’s Ghost is my favorite mobile and performers perform under Ghost and in front of the Archer. It was a really good show and inexpensive too. I liked meeting Arooj Aftab after the performance and Art After 5 was intimate enough to allow meeting an artist. I met a lot of great people that night.

The food that The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s restaurant prepares is really delicious too. They served everything from hamburgers to baba ghanouj to other Middle Eastern and ethnic foods. I had a mushroom flatbread pizza with a Shirley Temple and the pizza was amazing. It wasn’t overly cheesy and the mushrooms were done right. I only paid $10 for my meal, which in Philadelphia isn’t bad. I was satisfied with what was offered during Art After 5.

If you’re interested in attending an Art After 5 program, The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s website has a schedule of events. Each week is something different and each week is a new experience to learning something new.

Are there going to be any articles for other places you’ve visited? You have so many adventures!

Yes! I will be working on other places as well! I’m thinking Green Bay, New York City, Detroit, and when I get back from Toronto, Toronto as well.
