Elon Musk announced in a tweet that he had lifted the suspension of journalists’ accounts on Twitter. He said that he would reactivate the accounts of a number of journalists on the Twitter platform.

On Friday, the United Nations issued a strong condemnation of Elon Musk’s decision to suspend Twitter accounts belonging to various American journalists. They argued that this suspension sets a “dangerous precedent” and could have far-reaching implications.

Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, expressed his alarm over the random deactivation of journalists’ Twitter accounts.

We must condemn the act of silencing media outlets on a platform that boasts about its freedom-promoting values. This decision creates an alarming example for journalists everywhere who face repression, intimidation and other dangers as they report stories around the world.

Earlier, the European Commission expressed its “concern” about Musk’s behavior, threatening him to impose “sanctions soon.”

This Thursday, Twitter took the drastic step of disabling accounts belonging to journalists covering the platform and its new owner Elon Musk.

Journalists caused a stir on Twitter when they posted tweets critiquing the social media platform’s decision to bar accounts discussing Elon Musk’s private plane trips.
