Looking for ways to make your vacation more enjoyable and fun? A recreational vehicle could be what you need to take your next road trip to the next level. Today, an estimated 5.9 million families are registered owners of recreational vehicles with 89% of them using it for camping. In Australia, there are now around 600,000 registered owners of RV with 40% of them owning a camper-trailer type. Meanwhile, the other 40% own a caravan-type while the remaining 20% own camper vans or motorhomes.

Having a recreational vehicle can make your family vacation exciting, but also more enjoyable and convenient. So, if you are considering getting a motorhome, here’s how an RV will take your vacation to the next level.

If you are planning to buy an RV, you have to do research first like how the  rv extended warranty works.

What type of RV should you get?

The first thing you need to consider is whether you should get an RV that you can tow or drive. Either way, you need to prepare for the challenges each type has. If you’re considering getting an RV you can drive, be aware it’s a heavy vehicle. This means when you are rolling, it may take a bit of time to stop compared to a regular vehicle. The average class A motorhome can reach up to 45 feet high. Keep this in mind as the required clearance when going inside tunnels or under bridges.

If you’re buying a travel trailer or a 5th wheel, determine first if your car has enough power to tow it. See if you’re able to meet the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating before you hit the road. You also need to be prepared for changes in gas consumption and mileage that your car is going to undergo.

Amenities To Consider

Aside from the bedroom and kitchen, you would need your RV to have a washroom. You can’t expect to go on long trips without having to answer the call of nature, would you? Check out the size of the toilet of the RV you’re planning to buy. Better yet, try sitting on its toilet and see if you’re comfortable. Some motorhomes allow you to hook-up with water, power, and sewer lines. Don’t expect them to be cheap however as such recreational vehicles do come with a hefty price tag sometimes.

What are the features that you need in an RV?

Another important consideration is more of need rather than want. It’s easy to want an RV with lots of spaces or even an outdoor kitchen, but do you actually need those? Perhaps among the biggest considerations is the number and type of beds you need. How many will be joining the trip? Do you prefer a bed that stays in place or one that can be converted into a couch during the daytime? Will bunk beds work for you?

You also need to consider the sleeping and eating arrangement. See how the table or beds fold down and check how much space you can have when you’re not using them. How about an RV with a kitchen and all needed appliances for convenience or would you prefer a simple one to save space? Remember that with each extra feature, the price goes higher. So try to make a careful consideration. RV Pioneers have some great advice on what is the right RV for you.

Brand New or Secondhand

Budget is another consideration you should make. Motorhomes come in three popular types. A brand new class A motorhome can go as high as $280,041 or more, while the B-type can range from $80,000-$115,000. The price for a C-type motorhome may be lesser but there are also instances when it could be higher than a class B-type depending on the make. Second-hand motorhomes are known to be cheaper as class A models range anywhere from $20,000 to $150,000. The difference in price depends on the model and condition.

Second-hand class B motorhomes can go as low as $17,000 to $100,000, while the class C type ranges from $12,000 to $70,000. The cost of a second-hand travel trailer can be anywhere from $10,000 to $200,000, again depending on the make. These are only some of the things you should consider when buying a recreational vehicle. In the case of a motorhome, you should also check its fuel tank capacity. Most RVs in the market have fuel capacities that range from 25 to 150 gallons. To decide which one you should get, try to think about the route you’re going to take. You wouldn’t want to end up running out of gas in the middle of nowhere. There are many other considerations to make but when you can properly list down the things that you need, you’ll have the perfect RV for your vacation.
