Here are a few ideas that can help to prevent future neck pain.
Support Your Lower Back
Your neck does not exist isolated from the rest of the muscles in your body. In fact, your neck is a centralized location for the shoulder, back, and spine. Any strain or weight placed on your neck affects your spine as well. All the way down to your lower back.
The best way to help prevent neck pain is to take some weight off of your neck by strengthening your lower back muscles. This will distribute the weight better and take the pressure off of your neck.
Don’t Lead with Your Chin
Often times people have a habit of leading with their chins. Either while walking or sitting watching TV, they will thrust their chins out. This can lead to extra strain and pressure on the neck which over time will cause great amounts of discomfort and pain.

You should be sure to keep your spine aligned as much as possible while you are walking, running, laying down, or sitting. Even just standing in one place, you should pay attention to your posture.
Exercises for Neck Pain
Since neck pain often takes years to manifest, there’s a good chance you’re already experiencing neck pain. Think of it as the consequences of being young. Luckily though there are some exercises for pain in neck.
Side-to-Side Neck Tilt
From a seated position tilt your head towards one shoulder leading with your ear. Hold the stretch for five seconds and then return to the starting position. Repeat this for the other shoulder. Do these five times for both shoulders.
This is like the side-to-side neck tilt. Start in a seated position and tilt your head down and try to touch your chin to your chest. Hold the stretch for five seconds and then return to the starting position. Repeat this motion five times.
This exercise for pain in neck can be done either sitting or standing. Keeping your head straight and your chin level, slowly turn your head to one side. Keep your chin level the whole way and hold the stretch for five seconds. Repeat the stretch turning the opposite direction. Continue this on both sides five times.
