A U.S. drone was shot down after an “interception and collision” with a Russian fighter

On Tuesday, the U.S. European Command made an announcement: Two Russian Su-27 aircraft had dangerously and unprofessionally intercepted a regular American MQ9 reconnaissance mission flying over the Black Sea.

The command divulged that a Russian jet had encountered an American convoy, prompting the US troops to fire on the drone in international waters.

The statement affirmed that prior to the mishap, a Russian pilot recklessly and dangerously dispersed fuel in front of the drone. This occurrence is part of an ongoing pattern of risky maneuvers performed by Russian pilots over global airspace, including above the Black Sea.

He emphasized that these hostile actions could lead to misjudgment and a potential spiral of dangerous escalation.
