A coworking space is a style of work environment that is generally open in design and filled with people who likely don’t work for the same organization or even in the same industry. While coworking spaces provide the structure of a formal office, they’re still open, social places where you are encouraged to network and think outside of the box.

4. Stop trying to multitask.

Science has proven that multitasking is nothing more than a myth. Not only is it impossible to multitask effectively, but it will actually slow you down substantially throughout the day. While the brain is able to switch tasks quickly, it is much more productive when focused on one task before moving on to the next one. Block out potential distractions, and instead allow yourself to focus solely on one activity.

5. Handle everything once, right away.

It’s tempting to push papers and emails to the side in favor of something more pressing, but these can quickly pile up into an uncontrollable mess. Instead of ignoring your new messages in your inbox, deal with them right away. This way, you’ll only have to deal with these things once, making them much smaller issues and freeing your mind for more important tasks throughout the day. While it might take some getting used to, once you’re in the habit of handling everything once (and only once), it will be a big relief!
