With so many distractions nowadays, it’s normal to struggle to get things done on time. As if social media wasn’t enough, there are also new TV shows and movies released seemingly every day which can additionally distract you from what’s important. If you’re an entrepreneur or a business owner, it’s more important than ever to stay on top of your priorities. Here are five ways to get more done every day.

1.  Start by getting enough sleep.

If you’re exhausted, it’s harder to get work done. Tiredness can also lead to more mistakes throughout the day, increasing your workload substantially. A lot of people struggle to sleep soundly nowadays, but there are things you can do to be proactive about your sleep. First, avoid any technology around bedtime. Opt instead for a good book which you can enjoy, but you won’t be excited by so much that you’ll spend hours reading instead of sleeping. Use a sleep app which tracks your sleep for patterns and potential problems. Being mindful about your sleeping schedule is the first step to a good night’s sleep.

2. Develop an organized priority system.

Having too many tasks on your plate can be overwhelming. If you’re constantly feeling so stressed that you don’t even know where to begin, it’s time to develop a better system for organizing your workload. There are a lot of free tools that can change the way you organize tasks. Trello, for instance, is a great way to see all of your tasks at once in a color-coded, calendar-friendly screen. Once you develop a system that works, stick to it to start seeing results.

3. Find a local coworking space.

Coworking spaces are becoming more and more common, especially in big cities. A coworking space is a style of work environment that is generally open in design and filled with people who likely don’t work for the same organization or even in the same industry. While coworking spaces provide the structure of a formal office, they’re still open, social places where you are encouraged to network and think outside of the box. These types of workspaces have become increasingly popular in Europe, with Berlin’s abundance of office space earning it the title of Europe’s Coworking Capital.

4. Stop trying to multitask.

Science has proven that multitasking is nothing more than a myth. Not only is it impossible to multitask effectively, but it will actually slow you down substantially throughout the day. While the brain is able to switch tasks quickly, it is much more productive when focused on one task before moving on to the next one. Block out potential distractions, and instead allow yourself to focus solely on one activity.

5. Handle everything once, right away.

It’s tempting to push papers and emails to the side in favor of something more pressing, but these can quickly pile up into an uncontrollable mess. Instead of ignoring your new messages in your inbox, deal with them right away. This way, you’ll only have to deal with these things once, making them much smaller issues and freeing your mind for more important tasks throughout the day. While it might take some getting used to, once you’re in the habit of handling everything once (and only once), it will be a big relief!
