There are over 22 million Americans suffering from problems relating to drugs or alcohol. One of the best ways to address these issues is going to a rehabilitation center.

Going to rehab is a big — and important — step. Up to 90% of people who need to go don’t seek treatment, and the choice to go should be celebrated and supported.

That being said, it’s not easy. Everyone’s reaction to the program is different.

Figuring out what you can control makes things easier. If you’re wondering what to bring to rehab, we can help you plan — keep reading.

What to Pack for Rehab

Many centers have a rehab dress code that you have to adhere to. Make sure to call ahead to find out what you should and shouldn’t bring.

That being said, you should plan for one or two weeks worth of outfits. Everything should be easy care; leave your dry clean only items at home.

Shoes should be comfy enough to wear for everyday activities. Bring along a pair of sneakers for the gym, flip flops for the shower, and ugg slippers for nighttime.

Think about bringing a few different clothing items, like bathing suits or a fancy dress for special events, too.

Toiletries and Hygiene Products

Bring along your preferred hygiene and toiletry products. It’s important to feel fresh, clean, and well-groomed while in rehab.

Bring your favorite deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, and whatever else you need to feel good.

If you use makeup, bring it with you. It might help you feel put together while going through a rough time.

Don’t forget sunscreen and feminine hygiene products. Ask before bringing razors and other shaving equipment.

Personal Items

Your support system won’t be in rehab with you. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have them with you in spirit.

Bring photos of loved ones to keep you going through rough times. Any memento that helps you feel stronger is a good thing.

Bring uplifting paperback books to read. Journals or art supplies help get your thoughts and feelings out too.

Many places, like Alo House luxury drug rehab centers, have plenty of amenities on hand in case you need them.

Banned Items

There are some items you can’t bring with you to rehab centers. Every place is different so it’s important to ask before you bring something.

Obviously, drugs, alcohol, pornography, and other obviously contraband items are forbidden. Things like candles, sports equipment, food or drinks, and opened medications are as well.

Some centers allow things like cigarettes or cash. If you arrive with a banned item, sometimes they will hold it for you or send it back home if you need it.

Your Guide to What to Bring to Rehab

This guide on what to bring to rehab isn’t definitive. As we said, each center has different rules as to what is and isn’t allowed.

Check with your center to clarify what you can bring along. The important thing is to make an effort to go, even if you have to leave something you want to bring behind.
