Since nails are made up of keratin and are no longer a living substance (which is why it doesn’t hurt to cut them), they are a good indicator of your body’s overall health. People suffering from lengthy illnesses will often see signs of nail damage in response to the body’s suffering.
If your nails are weak, they may be in need of supplementation in the form of biotin. Biotin is a water-soluble B-Vitamin, also known as Vitamin H, which supports the healthy growth and regeneration of skin, nerves, digestive tracts and cells.
Biotin is the only supplement proven to help nails grow stronger and longer. It takes six to nine weeks for nails to regenerate, so most doctors suggest taking biotin for at least four weeks to see if it has any effect.
