The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that a single-engine plane hit a power line tower close to the Montgomery County Airpark at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Sunday. The airplane, which had departed from White Plains, New York, was veered into the electric tower as seen in footage of the aftermath of the accident.
The 65-year-old pilot, Patrick Merkel, from Washington D.C., and 66-year-old passenger, Jean Williams, from Louisiana were saved by the police after their plane got stuck 30 meters off the ground.
Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Goldstein said the two men had “serious injuries” but they were not life-threatening and both men have been taken to the local trauma center.
About 120,000 subscribers were without power in Montgomery County, the local electric company said, before most subscribers were later restore
