The Best Restaurants in Baltimore

Baltimore is known for the restaurants that not only have food that permeates through the salty air of the Inner Harbor, but also for the restaurants that fill the bellies of people visiting the outskirts of the Inner Harbor in Baltimore proper. Like seafood? The Inner Harbor has many options for what Baltimore is known for: crabs and crab cakes. However, the outskirts of Baltimore offer their fair share of awesome seafood places. Sadly, Crabby Dick’s closed in 2007 (they’re still in Lewes, Delaware, however!), but there are many great restaurants around Baltimore and Fells Point. Love Southern food, or barbeque? Baltimore has it. Middle Eastern? Baltimore has that too. Italian or French? You bet, Baltimore has it. You can find just about anything in Baltimore as they offer food for every palette.

Woody’s Crab House

Although Woody’s Crab House isn’t located in Baltimore, but rather in North East, Maryland, this restaurant is a great place to stop for a crab dinner on the way to Baltimore. Unlike Captain Chris’ Crab Shack (also in North East, Maryland) they are opened all year round and have a more extensive menu than just crab, French fries and corn. Woody’s Crab House offers crabs, oysters, shrimp, scallops, chicken, salads, soups, and clams.

Woody’s Crab House is a great place to stop on your way to Baltimore. It’s located in the quaint little town of North East along a row of small shops that specialize in antiques, crafts, and sewing. Despite North East being a small town, these shops are always full and Woody’s is always crowded. The atmosphere of Woody’s resembles the atmosphere of any small town restaurant—everyone knows who you are and if they don’t, they get to know you quickly. I love how friendly everyone is and they make the dining experience really memorable. The decorations and trinkets hanging up also brought a smile to my face. Woody’s Crab Shack really knows how to prepare crabs and other seafood – they’re spiced with enough Old Bay and they’re not overpowered by the spice. The clams and oysters were cooked just right and the oysters were done in a way where they didn’t have such a strong taste (oysters are an acquired taste). We stopped here before we went to the Plumpton Park Zoo and Elk Neck State Park.

These places are a great stop before continuing onto Baltimore as well. The scenery of both places are breathtaking and great photographers. Although North East is small, the town offers a lot for tourists and would be worth walking around before leaving.
