Washington DC Tour the Capitol

As one of the most majestic of all the Federal buildings, the Capitol makes a great tour. While it is free, you do have to make advance reservations, which can be scheduled visiting Visit Capitol gov . There are special exhibits, such as Congress and the Progressive Era, which runs through September 2016, as well as the Hall of Statuary, the old Senate Hall, and – of course – the iconic dome.

If you book your visit through your Representative or Senator, you can even get a pass to watch Congress debate from the Visitors’ Gallery and see democracy in action. Similarly, you may by chance be there to witness a demonstration or rally of one kind or another. These are frequent on the Capitol lawn, and always interesting to talk about when you get home.
