A new online shopping store overtook Walmart and Amazon to become the most downloaded app in the United States.
According to CNN’s Sunday report, Temu has rapidly expanded into the new online shopping platform of one of China’s top retailers and surged past Amazon and Walmart as the most-downloaded app in the United States.
Temu, an online retailer based in Boston, made the most of their debut during Sunday’s Super Bowl game thanks to its shared ownership with Chinese trading giant Pinduoduo.
Temu, the proprietor of a massive e-commerce platform with offerings ranging from home goods to apparel and tech gadgets, unveiled an in-game advertisement that enticed consumers to shop.
Temu presented a message to their customers that they could shop with more autonomy due to the price point, and what better way than through the Super Bowl? A Temu spokesperson told CNN.
Comparisons to Shein, the Chinese fast-fashion giant that has been a hit in the US and other markets for its expansive range of affordable clothing and home goods, readily come to mind when examining the surprisingly low prices offered here by Western standards.
In comparison to Temu, Shein is a rival of US discount retailer Wish and Alibaba’s AliExpress – as found by Coresight research.
Launched in September of last year, the app has immediately skyrocketed to success with 24 million downloads and 11 million active users every month, reports Sensor Tower.
In the final three months of last year, Timo app downloads outperformed renowned companies such as Walmart, Amazon and Target in terms of download numbers according to Abi Youssef – a senior insights analyst at analytics firm Sensor Tower.
Temu announced to CNN that after its release in November, the mobile app skyrocketed and has remained #1 on both iOS and Android stores ever since.
According to Youssef, the company has seen great success in acquiring new users through their app due to its extremely discounted prices and short-term offers. For example, customers have had access up 89% discounts on some products within the app.
