Wrinkles. Crow’s feet. Scars.

There are numerous skin concerns that we’re affected by, and they can be incredibly annoying to deal with. However, there are a few treatments available if you’re looking to get tight, youthful skin.

One of these is facial laser resurfacing. If you’re not sure what it’s all about, you’re not alone. We’re here to give you the lowdown on everything to do with facial laser resurfacing, so keep reading on if you’d like to know more!

What Is Facial Laser Resurfacing?

Essentially, facial laser resurfacing is a method of improving skin quality. If you’d like to reduce wrinkles and tighten your skin, it can be helpful to try.

The procedure is fairly simple. You can expect short beams of light to be projected at areas of your skin you want to target. It’ll carefully remove skin layer-by-layer, prompting the formation of new, younger skin cells that will improve how your skin looks.

Before the treatment itself, your skin will need to be prepared, so expect a few weeks of minor treatment. Then once you’re ready for the big moment, your doctor will give you a topical anesthetic before cleaning the skin and making a start. That’s all there is to it!

Types of Lasers

There are two different types of lasers, and the one used on your skin will depend on your individual requirements.

Ablative lasers, which include carbon dioxide and erbium, remove the outside layers of the skin. Carbon dioxide is used for concerns like scars and warts, whereas erbium is used for wrinkles and similar concerns. You’ll need to discuss this with your dermatologist or doctor.

In contrast, non-ablative lasers do not remove any layers of your skin. Fractional lasers, pulsed-dye lasers, pulsed light, and others can be used for issues including acne and rosacea, so are likely to be a better option if you’re dealing with conditions like these.

Of course, you’ll have to consider the cost. The typical laser skin resurfacing cost is around $1,000 for non-ablative and $2,000 for ablative lasers, so you’ll need to bear this in mind when making a decision.

Benefits of Facial Laser Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing has a number of benefits. We’ve explained a few of them just below, so you can find out a little more!

  • You can use laser treatment to treat problems that may not be solvable with over-the-counter treatments.
  • Every skin issue from age spots and wrinkles to crow’s feet and scars can be treated by facial laser resurfacing.
  • The procedure is fast and simple, generally taking under an hour, and there’s no need to stay in the hospital as you might do for other cosmetic procedures.
  • The benefits will last – your results are permanent, as you have a new layer of skin. However, your new skin will still age over time, so it’s important to look after it.
