Building your own startup from scratch is exciting, but at the same time, challenging task. It might be difficult to figure out how to hire IT specialists and build a good development team if you’re entirely new to it.

Where do you find the best IT specialists? How do you conduct the interview? And most importantly: how do you estimate their expertise? There are so many questions you need to address, and it can seem pretty overwhelming.

But don’t worry much because we are here to help you out with all of it. So without wasting much time, let’s get straight to the point:

Where to hire the best IT specialists?

Depending on your needs, there are a couple of ways you can approach this topic. If you need someone to work with you in-house, from the office, then you should automatically forget about all the freelance and remote choices.

On the other hand, if you are working on a more small-scale project and don’t want to spend much effort and budget on hiring a full-time employee, choosing a freelancer might be the best solution.

Whatever your case is, we’ll discuss both of the options here.

Let’s start with the:

● Referrals

One of the ways you can find good IT specialists is by asking your friends and coworkers to refer someone they already know and trust. This is one of the easiest and most efficient methods because usually, you get referred to an outstanding specialist, and you get to enjoy working with them.

However, sometimes this option can be a little risky. In the end, you can never be sure whom your coworker will refer to. For example, maybe his friend is a junior developer who desperately needs a job, so he pretends to be a senior to get the vacancy.

So make sure you don’t trust blindly, and still conduct the interview and assess the tasks before accepting anyone to your company.

●  Job posts

Another way to reach your potential employees is by posting your job vacancy on social media and popular job portals. For instance, if you share it on LinkedIn, where most users come to find job-related content, the chances are high that you’ll get a lot of applications.

Don’t forget to give a thorough job description, though, so that your potential employees know up front whether they are eligible for the position or not.

Again, if you’re looking for an in-house specialist, make sure you specify that only locals can apply. But if you’re open to international applicants and remote working, there’s no need to put any geographical limitations.

And this brings us to our last point:

● Freelancing platforms

Along with the social media and job portals, you can also post your announcement on popular freelancing platforms. That is, of course, if you agree that your employee will not be fully committed to your project. But don’t get it wrong: it does not mean that the quality of the work he offers is any less than the one provided by your full-time specialist.

The only difference here is that freelancers usually ask for more freedom in their graphics and accept only short collaborations. So, if you need to develop a mobile app for your company in a few months and then use it for the upcoming years, then hiring a freelance iOS developer will be the best solution.

But, if, on the other hand, you know that you will constantly be making changes to your app, adding new features, or even redesigning it completely, then the in-house iOS development team is your go-to.

Anyways, there are still hundreds of reasons to choose freelancers, and the most important one is that they are a more affordable solution. Just think about it: if you want to bring a full-time developer, you need to take care of all the perks and benefits, provide him training, insurance, salary raises, and so much more. So unless you know that the in-house team is an absolute must, it’s way better to hire freelancers.

Whichever you choose, make sure that you go through in-depth interviews with your potential employees, check their background, and think twice before offering them the position. But it’s not as complicated as it seems. It might sound romantic, but just like with soulmates, once you meet the right IT specialist, you’ll feel it right away!
