Life is moving faster and faster. That’s something we can all agree on. But why is it that we seem to spend most of our time sitting in the same place? We sit for hours at work, in our cars, in restaurants and on our couches at home. Well, it’s time to break out of the rut. Here are five ideas to ignite your everyday life with a spark of fitness.

1. Cycle to Work

A fitness crime that you may be guilty ofis driving to the office every day. If you took your bike instead you could be improving your health and, at the same time, making a difference to the environment. You could even choose a bikethat is specially designed for city use, like a Brompton, which can be folded up to save space when you get on a bus or reach your destination. Before you know it, you may even be cycling for fun over the weekend, because this is an activity which is highly addictive.

2.Take Breaks at Work

If you’re at your desk for long periods of time, it might be a good idea to get up every now and then and take a walk. You could speak to your employer about offering additional breaks for this purpose or you could fit these small periods of exercise into any snack breaks you have already been given. If you have a longer lunch break, our recommendation is to use it to get outside and take a walk. Just about any exercise is good exercise, and the more you move the better.

3. Join a Team

For some the idea of jogging on the sidewalkor sweating it out in a gym isn’t very appealing. And for people like these we can recommend joining a team. From baseball to competitive kickball, there’s something out there for everyone. Joining an adult sports league is also a great way to have fun while you exercise. The social benefits are also right up there, and you may even make a whole new crowd of friends.

4. Focus on Food

Healthy eating isn’t just for the everyday grind, and if you want to benefit from good nutrition you might want to ensure that even weekends and vacations are times when you stick to your diet. We understand that it’s difficult to avoid fast food, but if you try and cook for yourself and your family as often as possible, using fresh ingredients, you could really feel the results in terms of your overall health and fitness.

5. Manage Your Stress Levels

Stress might just be one of the biggest dangers we face in terms of our daily health. Some of the methods which can help us cope with it include meditation, yoga and regular exercise. You could also benefit from getting enough sleep at night and drinking plenty of water during the day. Some people even recommend simply taking the time to read a good book or listen to music. It’s all the little things we do that add up to help us combat stress and ease the anxiety of daily living.
