It has been a year since the Willis family announced Bruce’s retirement as an actor after he lost his speech, and they recently released another statement regarding his health. Surprisingly, the Hollywood star suffers from frontotemporal dementia (FTD), one of the most infrequent diseases known to humanity. His condition has worsen over time, leaving him with no choice but to bid farewell to acting for good.

Family statement: It is a cruel disease that many of us have not heard of

With a unified voice, Emma – Bruce’s current wife and Demi Moore – his ex-wife in addition to daughters Rumer, Tallulah, Mabel and Evelyn expressed their appreciation on social media. They exclaimed: “We thank everyone for the abundance of love and sympathy.”

After obtaining a precise diagnosis regarding Bruce Willis’ well-being over the last 10 months, we are proud to bring you an update on his condition as husband, father and friend. The stories sent by many of you have been so inspiring – thank you for your ongoing support!

Despite the difficulty of this news, it is solace to finally have a distinct diagnosis. This cruel condition remains unfamiliar to many and can affect anyone without warning.

Our statement communicated that, unfortunately, this disease has no current cure; however, we are filled with hope for the future and a potential change in the years ahead. We would be grateful if any media attention about Bruce’s condition could help bring greater awareness to this illness as it desperately needs additional research.

The family also noted that the loss of verbal communication was merely one of many symptoms associated with this rare and debilitating disorder.

In a full-length statement published on an awareness website about this illness, Bruce said: “Throughout my life, I have been passionate about using my voice to help others and raise understanding of important matters in both the public and private spheres.”

Deep down, we are certain that if he could speak to us today, his primary mission would be to bring global awareness of this devastating illness and its harm endured by so many people and their families.

Bruce Willis retired in 2022

In March of 2022, the Bruce Willis family officially announced his retirement from acting after medical tests revealed that he had suffered a loss of speech. His relatives released a joint statement to the public expressing their sorrow over this difficult diagnosis and noting that it would significantly impair his cognitive capabilities.

As a family, we are saddened to inform you that Bruce Willis has recently been diagnosed with Aphasia, a language disorder resulting from brain damage which hinders his communication and cognitive abilities. We thank all of Bruce’s amazing fans for their continued support during this difficult time.

After much deliberation, Bruce is making the tough decision to transition away from a career that has been an integral part of his life.

In closing, we addressed the audience with a heartfelt statement: “We are so thankful for all of your love, compassion and support that has been poured out on our family during this difficult time. We wanted to reach out to Bruce’s fans because he was absolutely cherished by each of you. As he always said; ‘live your life’, and that is exactly what we intend on doing as one strong unit.”
