To save $ 13 million, billionaire Elon Musk– the new owner of Twitter- decided to end free lunches for employees. He reasoned that more people would rather bring their own food than eat what was provided.
On Monday, November 14, 2022, The Telegraph reported that Musk had gotten into a disagreement with a former Twitter executive about the price of the company’s food bill. In a tweet on Twitter, Musk said thatTwitter spends $1 million annually on food service at its San Francisco headquarters. He continued by stating that badge files show peak attendance was only 25% and average attendance is less than 10%. More people cook their own meals than eating the provided ones because they “don’t care about serving [the] food [that is provided].”
He stated that in the past year, Twitter has spent $400 on average for every lunch served to employees.
Tracy Hawkins, a Twitter user and former real estate official, responded to Musk’s claims. She said that “attendance was between 20 and 50 percent in offices” but that the free meals “have been helping employees work during the day.”
This is a lie. I ran this program up until a week ago when I resigned because I didn’t want to work for @elonmusk For breakfast & lunch we spent $20-$25 a day per person. This enabled employees to work thru lunchtime & mtgs. Attendance was anything from 20-50% in the offices. https://t.co/0OjbeComka

Mask has downsized benefits for social network employees, like discontinuing the corporate work-from-home policy and mandating that 40 hours a week be spent in the office.
