Mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor accused of sexual assault

According to several US reports on Thursday, a woman has accused Irish mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor of sexually assaulting her during the NBA Finals in Miami last week.

ESPN and TMZ Sports reported messages from the victim’s lawyer, in which she said that Magregor, 34, “violently” assaulted her in a bathroom at Cassia Center during the fourth game between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets last Friday.

Magregor denied the allegations in a statement emailed to AFP by lawyer Barbara Lines, asserting that “the allegations are false. Mr. Magregor will not be intimidated.”

Miami Police have confirmed that they are investigating a report that was filed on Sunday with their Special Victims Unit.

Miami police told AFP that they cannot disclose any more information as this is an ongoing investigation, without specifying McGregor’s involvement.

In the same context, the Miami Heat and the National League “NBA” confirmed that they are aware of the reports and the investigation.

Heat has issued a statement, stating that they are currently conducting a thorough investigation regarding the allegations and will not provide any additional comments until the investigation is completed.

During a game timeout, Magregor punched the Miami Heat mascot when they appeared to film a planned promotional advertisement, causing controversy. The person inside the costume was taken to the hospital to receive medical treatment and pain relievers before going home.

McGregor is one of the most famous names in combat sports, and he knew many controversial events inside and outside the mixed martial arts arena, the most famous of which was the fight that brought him together with veteran American boxer Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas in August 2017, which ended in favor of the latter in the tenth round.

The bout generated more than $600 million in total revenue, while McGregor, a former plumber from Dublin, earned nearly $100 million.

The Irishman, who achieved 22 victories during his career and won the featherweight and lightweight titles, also pleaded guilty to hitting a man in a bar in Ireland, and he was charged with smashing the mobile phone of a fan in the US state of Florida, and he was also subject to investigation in his country on charges of sexual assault.
