Sunnies have long been a friend to the celeb.  The starlets of the 1920’s were quick to pick up on their photogenic appeal and those stylish flashbulb protectors have remained a firm favourite with celebs ever since.  They provide a pinch of privacy in a life lived in front of the camera, they hide those tired eyes from critical gaze but most of all they are inescapably cool.

What a delight to live in an age when delicious designs just keep on coming and remember, you don’t have to choose just one pair.  Think of them as you would shoes, you just can’t have too many.  Those celebrities out there are fickle creatures when it comes to eyewear and they understand that if it’s a new day it’s time to try a new pair of sunnies, but hard as they are to pin down here’s a run-down of some recent celebrity favourites.

Bella and Gigi Hadid -VO5235S 53 & VO5237S 52

Given that Bella and Gigi are two of the biggest influencers of their generation it should come as no surprise that their partnership with VogueEyewear has resulted in Vogue Sunglasses popping up absolutely everywhere.  There is in fact a whole Gigi Hadid VogueEyewear collection which she helped to design.  What are you waiting for, go shop.

Vanessa Hudgens – Adam Selman X Le Specs

Actress and singer Vanessa Hudgens loves the feline look of Adam Selman’s cat’s eye sunnies.  Slightly crazy, 1960’s waspish auntish, these sunglasses also manage to be stylish, sexy and fun.  Probably not the sunglasses you’d select for serious situations.

Kylie Jenner – Quay Australia Collection

Kylie Jenner, best known for her role in ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ and Quay, best known for its oversized aviators and edgy fashion sunnies, beloved by the likes of Beyoncé and JLo, teamed up a couple of summers ago.  There’s a great selection of funky lenses and frames to choose from and if that all sounds too confusing, fret not, you can virtually try on as many styles as you like at the brand’s website.

Shakira – Ray-Ban Aviators

Singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, businesswoman, philanthropist, responsible for selling over seventy-five million records, what else would such an iconic figure wear other than the most iconic sunglasses in the world. Marlon Brando, James Dean, Audrey Hepburn, Elvis Presley, Tom Cruise, you’d be hard put to find an A list star who hasn’t been seen in Aviators at some stage in their career.  Seventy years old and their magic is still as strong as ever and if you wear prescription glasses, you can even get them with personal lenses and no one will ever know.

Adwoa Aboah – Poppy Lissiman – Le Skinny

The fashion face that made everyone take a second look has been seen in these sleek micro cat’s eyes.  Good enough to eat in vibrant glossy acetate of lilac, orange and black.

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge – Bvlgari Sunglasses

What sort of sunnies do you wear when you marry a prince? Well the answer is that most of the time you don’t, because you are expected to be open and approachable and your subjects will feel cheated if you are being all enigmatic behind a pair of sunglasses.  When you are at Wimbledon however and that searing British sun is baking your retina then slipping on a pair of shades is acceptable.  Kate’s eyewear of choice is described by its designers as reflecting ‘women’s innate beauty, enhancing the different facets of femininity, dazzling exuberance, stylish urban spirit…’ in other words, nothing too dangerous or edgy.  Sunglasses fit for a duchess and very pretty they are too.

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex – Mykita Sunglasses

Rounding up this brief review of what the royals wear, is Meghan’s choice, which is another exercise in eyewear restraint.  Mykita styles range from classic to avant-garde but they are minimalist and without ostentation, they are also super light-weight, high tech and high performance.  A classy choice Meghan.
