1. De-clutter!

The first thing before anything, is to get rid of all your excess junk and clutter. I know its hard to part from things that you swear by, whether that be in the kitchen, lounge, or bathroom… It’s time to upgrade! Removing specific things from your home will make your home appear to have more space, creating the impression of a larger living area, and not to mention it will be so much easier to organise.

2. Fill gaps with plants and furnishings

One of the best ways to start out the new year is to completely refresh your plant choices! If you have any gaps in your home that could do with being filled to give the room more personality, a plant is the way forward. There are so many different choices of plants for you to pick, and they will make such a difference to your home!

3. Upgrade your furniture

This one is one of the most important points if you want to go into the new year feeling like you have a completely new home – UPGRADE YOUR FURNITURE! There are so many different things to consider when choosing your new furniture, starting with what material you would like. I would highly recommend choosing wooden furniture. This is starting to become a huge trend for multiple households. Wooden furniture looks gorgeous in all different types of homes and is very versatile if you would like to redecorate later in the year. Furniture Plus have some fantastic products for you to choose from at a very reasonable price.

4. Get creative with art

If you would like to brighten up a room in your home this new year, hanging up a piece of art is a great way to go. Nowadays, you can pick up art for reasonable prices – or if you would like to do this as cheap as possible, get an a3 printed version of a piece of art you like, and frame it yourself. This may save you a little bit of cash and make any room in your home look gorgeous. There are all kinds of different places online, such as Photobox, that enable you to do this!

5. Cutlery, Cutlery, Cutlery!

A little thing that gets overlooked, but is an essential part to a perfect kitchen, is cutlery! Get rid of all your old cutlery and replace it all with a fresh, new set. Although this is such a small thing to change, it really can make a difference to your kitchen. Cutlery is possibly one of the most used utensils in a kitchen, so it is important to ensure your knifes, forks, spoons etc. are always ahead of the game.

6. Brighten the room with cushions

Cushions are a great way to brighten up a room and create a specific mood. For example, maybe you would like to combine blue and yellow cushions to create a light, homey, relaxed atmosphere. Alternatively, you could opt for red and black cushions, which would create a much fiercer atmosphere. The choice is endless for what kind of cushions you would like to pair with each other.

7. Get a lighting makeover

Lamps and lights can really set the mood you’re looking for in any space. If you are finding yourself with much more empty space than anticipated, and a plant just won’t cut it, you should consider filling the area with a lamp! There are so many different styles of lamps you can choose from, with endless possibilities of lamp shades too, enabling you to find the perfect filler for that empty space (so long as it matches your cushions… if not, go back to the previous tip)

8. Give your garden some TLC!

Although it is important to take care of the inside of your home, you must remember to take care of the outside too. Having a well looked after garden is something that can really change the way a house looks and feels. If you have the time, think about investing in some outside plants, or even plant them yourself to bloom in time for summer! You could even go one-step further and start a small vegetable garden, the opportunities are endless!
