A giraffe feeding experience at a wildlife center in Texas, United States, turned into a terrifying experience last week, when one of the giraffes grabbed a baby girl from inside a pickup truck she was traveling in.
The video of Jason Totten, the girl’s father, ignited social networking sites, showing his daughter who was trying to feed the giraffe, but the latter caught her and pulled her out of the back of the truck during their tour.
The giraffe pushed its head towards the girl and continued to approach while moving further into the back of the truck. The video then showed the giraffe grabbing the girl and lifting her into the air, while a woman could be heard screaming in the background.
The accident is the first of its kind
Warren Lewis, chief marketing officer at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, announced in a statement that the center was informed on Monday about an incident involving one of their giraffes over the past weekend.
Lewis said nothing like this incident had ever happened before at Fossil Rim, but it was taking “immediate action to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
For her part, Lindsay Merriman, who took the video, indicated that she was filming how the giraffe was eating from people’s hands and dipping her head into the sunroof, pointing out that the giraffe accidentally grabbed the little girl’s shirt with the food and lifted her from inside the truck.
