What do Apple and Samsung say about the rice trick for saving phones dropped in water?

There is a belief among many that rice is an effective way to save a smartphone after it falls into water. How true is this belief?

Apple

To answer this question, a report by the German News Agency said that Apple stated that if moisture leaks into the Lightning or USB-C port, the smartphone responds to that by showing an immediate warning stating that It is not possible to charge the smartphone or use accessories through this port temporarily, until the inside of the connection port is completely dry.

The American company published on its support page a warning against placing the iPhone smartphone in rice in order to speed up the drying process, explaining that the smallest grains of rice could damage the smartphone. It also advised against using hair dryers, cotton swabs, and kitchen paper.

Instead, Apple advised gently tapping the iPhone so that the port is facing down to allow any remaining water to drip out. In order for the smartphone to be dried, it must be placed in a well-ventilated place, and it must not be recharged until half an hour later.

The American company indicated that it may take 24 hours for the water to evaporate completely and the liquid to disappear from the smartphone.

Samsung

For its part, Samsung also warned against putting smartphones equipped with the Android operating system in rice to get rid of moisture. The South Korean company explained that if the smartphone is not waterproof and is exposed to liquids, it is best to remove the SIM card and the SD memory card from the device, dry them with a dry towel, and place the device in a well-ventilated, low-light place. To be cool.
